Why do we give gifts at Christmas ?
The world was given the greatest gift of all when God gave His son to us. We give presents to honor that gift; the birth of the Baby Jesus, and the love and sharing He taught throughout His life.

What was the first Christmas present?
The very first Christmas gifts were frankincense, gold and myrrh.. given to the Christ Child by the three Magi.

How many elves live at the North Pole ?
There are somewhere around three hundred elves here, I think. It's hard to count them though, because they like to hide behind toys and furniture whenever we try to do a census. Mrs. Claus says she thinks there are actually over five hundred of them here.. she should know, she runs the kitchen!

How old are the elves ?
Their ages are all different. There are always elves moving in and others moving out as they do different jobs. It might be helpful to know that elves age backwards. The youngest elves have long white beards and are all wrinkled. The oldest elves look like human children, except for their pointy ears.

Do the elves use computers?
The North Pole is completely up to date! We even have internet connections! Computers are used now to design toys and to schedule Santa's trip. We also use them to monitor weather and the Naughty & Nice radar scope.

What are the reindeer names ?
Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid,Donner, Blitzen, and of course Rudolph. There are many other reindeer in the family but the list is far too long to put here. Ho Ho Ho

What do reindeer eat ?
They eat oats and hay but are especially fond of carrots and apples. And if you want to make a special friend, leave a cookie out for each of them!

Do reindeer really fly ?
My reindeer are a special magical breed, but even they have to go to Reindeer School to learn to fly. It takes a lot of skill to pull my sleigh through blizzards and rain storms without tipping over and losing all the toys.

What kind of games do reindeer play ?
Their favorite games are Leap Deer and Blind Deer's Bluff. They also enjoy playing Reindeer Tag and Hoof Hockey.

Is Rudolph's nose really red?
Yes it is! It was a big surprise to everyone, including his mother and father! We aren't really sure why it is red, it seems to have something to do with his unusual body chemistry. The more excited he gets, the brighter his nose shines.

How many Santas are there ?
There is only one Santa Claus. However, he has many helpers that work
as department store Santa's and in parades. Some of Santa's favorite helpers work for charities like the Salvation Army.

Where did Santa Claus come from ?
There are many different legends about Santa. I originally came from northern Europe a very very very long time ago. I have written my story down for you on another page (it is a little too long to put in here).

Who are Santa's helpers ?
At home the elves and reindeer are my helpers but I have many people around the world who are helpers as well. They show love for all people of all races and creeds and keep Christmas in their hearts all year through.

Where does Santa Claus live ?
My home is at the north pole. No, it can't be found on a map or a radar scope, it is hidden in a magical mist that prevents modern science from intruding on us. Our little village is full of workshops and stables (and of course a church) and is always bustling with activity year round.

Why does Santa come down the chimney?
In Europe during the Middle Ages, as now, people locked their doors for security. The only way Santa could get into a home was down the chimney.

If the fire is going in a fireplace when Santa comes, isn't he going to get burnt?
No, when he comes down the chimney his magic freezes the fire until he steps out of it. His red suit was specially designed by the elves to smother the fire just long enough for him to get through it without getting burned.

Who are Santa's parents?
Santa was born during the coldest winter in Europe in one hundred years. The bad weather claimed the lives of many people and caused diseases to run wild through the villages. Santa's parents died at this time and he was raised in an orphanage.

How does Santa fit through the chimney?
He was given the magical power to become small enough to fit down any chimney, along with anything he is carrying. He becomes like smoke and can go through the smallest cracks or openings.

Where does Santa get the reindeer from?
When Santa was first asked to become the children's saint, he was given the last of a special breed of reindeer. They are very small, and have the ability to make themselves and anything they are attached to light enough to fly. They originated in Siberia and Finland but were hunted almost to extinction for their magical antlers, which allowed people to lift almost anything with very little effort.

How does Santa fit all those toys in his sack?
Santa's sack is bigger inside than it is outside. When he reaches a house, the only presents that actually appear in his sack are the gifts for the people who live there.
