The ancient custom of the mistletoe dates back to the Druids of northern Europe and the British Isles. The Druids believed mistletoe had the magical ability to make all those who came near it lose all thoughts of anger or hatred; symbolizing "peace to all who enter." Opposing soldiers who found themselves under the mistletoe quickly laid down their arms, and declared peace for the day.

The custom of the mistletoe has remained popular in Great Britain and North America to this day. Mistletoe is placed over a doorway, and those who pass under it are given a kiss.
